| So
what's a student, anyway? |
stu·dent (stood' 'nt) noun According to Webster a student is, among other things, "an attentive and systematic observer." What Webster doesn't tell us is that students (a.k.a. "kids") often focus on different things than older folks. Consider this exchange between the guide (an older folk) and a group of kids. Guide: "What famous names do you associate with Seattle?" (expecting to hear Microsoft, Boeing, and Starbucks perhaps). Kids: "Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Lee...." The idea of a Student Walking Tour is to weave some older folks facts into the kids fun stuff with footwork - that is, going to interesting places and discovering new things! |
| Where do we go? | See Seattle custom designs each tour based on time available, drop-off / pick up points and special interests or theme the group might have. Tour highlights often include: Westlake Park, Convention Center, Freeway Park, a historical photo gallery promenade, Seattle Central Library, Waterfall Garden Park, Glasshouse Studio, Klondike Gold Rush National Park, Hing Hay Park, Waterfront Park and the Bell Street Pier (to name a few)! |
| What age kids? | Student Walking Tours are geared for kids from middle school / junior high through high school ages. This tours is not recommended for grades below 7th grade unless the group includes older kids assigned to younger "buddies." |
| Chaperones | All Student Walking Tours require adult chaperones. The safety and whereabouts of all kids on the tour is the direct responsibility of the chaperones. At least one chaperone per 10 kids is considered adequate. As needed, foreign language groups may provide a translator. A translator may be a chaperone as well. |
| Where? | See Seattle would meet your group at Westlake Plaza, the Convention Center (see Maps & More ....) or you name it. If your group would be arriving by school bus See Seattle can recommend several drop off / pickup locations. |
| When? | 10:00 AM is the typical meeting time to start the tour. However, the tour starting time and how long it lasts is up to the group organizers and the fee does not change. So, if your group has the time and interest to "make a day of it" (say 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM) there is no extra charge. This tour may be conducted any day year-round. |
| Let's do lunch! | Kids often stash "brown bags" in their backpacks. In this case, we could stop at a grocery store to buy something to drink and have a picnic in a local park. Or we could stop at a food court or casual restaurant. |
| How Much? |
$15.00 per kid, $200.00 minimum per group plus Washington state sales tax of
8.9%. Chaperones and translators are "working" members of the tour
group and, therefore, go free on the tour.
Payment: 30 day invoice or check at the end of the tour - sorry, no credit cards. |
